Well here we go…
i did a bit of traveling around the Cusco region not just Machu Picchu and it really was a great way to experience the Andes, the culture, people and food.
The tour company I booked with basically planned an itinerary that started in Cusco City, moving onto the archaeological site Sacsayhuaman ( or “Sexy Woman” as our guides joked…), a llama farm called Awana Kancha (did you know llamas are cousins of camels??), lunch in a town called Urubamba, a tour of the stepped slopes of Pisac finishing off in the historical site Ollantaytambo. All of these places are located in what is know as the Sacred Valley or Valle Sagrado, thousands and thousands of feet about sea level.
So here are some photos, it really was an extraordinary experience,.The altitude made it a but tough sometimes but actually if you can acclimatize to Cusco City then anywhere within the Sacred Valley should be fine as the other locations are all at a lower altitude.
