We decided to climb Torc Mountain in County Kerry a few weeks ago. We were accompanied by perfect weather which made it a great experience.
There are salvaged railway sleepers snaking up the mountain side bringing you right to the top. They make the journey time to the top much shorter and are covered with wire mesh to give grip and provide a firm base from which to climb. The land underneath was wet and boggy and so without the sleepers the time to the top would easily have been twice as long. The weather was fantastic and the view from the top was worth it – the Killarney lakes are spread out before you. It only took as an hour and half to complete the hike and once you’ve descended you can visit the national park as the base of the mountain is located within the park.
